Bawabet Al-Farah… An initiative to strengthen identity in Al-Qarmi neighborhood in the Old City
JERUSALEM – Burj al-Luqluq social center society organized «Bawabet Al-Farah» initiative by the artists Mohamed Mahlous and Sarah Abdel-Latif, as well as a group of Jerusalemite artists as part of Forsa project funded by UNFPA.
«Bawabet Al-Farah» initiative aimed to add a Palestinian artistic touch to the public scene throughout the Old City of Jerusalem by decorating houses doors by Palestinian artist in Al- Qarmi neighborhood.
Twenty-five doors were decorated inside the neighborhood, and artists chose Al-Qarmi neighborhood to show that the identity of the neighborhood remain Arab and Palestinian. Jerusalem artist Mohamed Mahlous said that the doors of joy are an idea to confirm the identity of the city and its heritage in a simple Jerusalem artistic style.
He added that the doors of Al-Qarmi neighborhood are ready and i wish paint all the doors in the old city with the same idea.
In this third phase, 13 Jerusalem initiatives are implemented through youth within the Old City and in the vicinity of the city; the implementation of the initiatives will be followed by the First Jerusalem Youth, the Third Jerusalem Technology Forum and women Bazaar.
Forsa project is being implemented for the third year by Burj al-Luqluq and funded by the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA.
